Enhancing Plumbing Education: Summer Resource Development

Working to create resources for all

In my earlier two blog entries, I looked at ‘Developing Effective Plumbing Training Programs ‘ and ‘Innovative Plumbing Skills Development for Students‘

In this blog entry, I am sharing additional work and development. This was done during the summer. The goal is to better prepare all of our students in their studies.

Above is an idea that has been created and uploaded to the site. It covers a number of assignments for our students to work on when they are not in college.

On this site, there are 20 assignments available. These assignments can assist all students and tutors. They reinforce the knowledge required to enhance their overall awareness of the plumbing and heating industry they are studying. In addition to this website, I have created some remote learning packages. These packages are for all students enrolled in a full-time course at our centre. They help track and measure their distance learning while they are on the course.

Term one – this pack covers English. It is plumbing and heating related. It allows all students to continually maintain their English levels. It also assists them in the plumbing studies. There are twelve activities within the pack ranging from:

• commas
• passive verbs
• using verbs correctly
• spelling rules
• plumbing and heating glossary part one
• reading comprehension
• evaluating information
• plumbing and heating glossary part two
• planning and drafting
• proofreading
• using bar charts
• representing and recording information

All of the booklets are sent out to students as hard copies. They have space for the tutor to record feedback. Support notes can also be recorded within them.

Term two- this pack covers Maths. It is plumbing and heating related. It allows all students to continually maintain their Math levels. It also assists them in the plumbing studies. There are twelve activities within the pack ranging from:

• understanding bank statements part one
• understanding bank statements part two
• ratio
• quotation and fractions
• measurements
• whole numbers, decimal places and rounding up
• calculator exercises when pricing with VAT
• cuboid calculations, volume and area
• currency conversions
• pressure and units of measurement
• volume of water cylinders
• chance

Term three- this pack covers Digital. It is plumbing and heating related. It allows all students to continually maintain their Digital levels. It also assists them in the plumbing studies. There are twelve activities within the pack ranging from:

• safety online
• communication online
• creating a spreadsheet
• discussion and research into AI
• creating a slide deck for a presentation and email to tutor
• create an online quiz and share
• create a CV and a covering letter and email to tutor
• problem solving online via manufacturers instructions
• problem solving online part two
• follow on from CV readiness for interview researching company
• create an AI image of yourself plumbing from an image in centre
• review of term three-print-email

Below are a range of free to download sheets covering a range of topics

To be used to support the curriculum of plumbing, heating, gas and green technologies. Enabling checks on learning to be seen and feedback offered by the tutor/trainer. Each assignment has links to information. The student must read these as part of the guidance and reference material. This will assist them in completing the assignment.
