Summer is here, which means that pretty soon the first groups of apprentices who will be studying the standard will soon be arriving in centres up and down the country. Exciting times ahead, with a lot of preparation and planning being done by the staff across the country to be ready to deliver the best experience of this new standard to all.

I have worked on this new standard for a long time now, getting the resources ready, the practical training period ready and beyond. All of the resources I have created will be available to the students on their VLE when they arrive at Bolton College below I will try to outline the approach to the delivery of the standard and how I have stored the resources in readiness for delivery.
A video (no sound) featuring how the content of in centre knowledge in the classroom will be delivered and tracked in order to support the apprentice on their journey while in the PTP. The video shows a number of resources and delivery material available to the apprentice in order to cover the content during their time in centre. For example F-gas awareness, employer specific training requirements, LCH resources on heat pumps, solar thermal, scientific principles linked to the industry using a site developed for the topic In addition there will be some independent study for all apprentices using a pack that has been developed to promote out of centre reading linked to the industry, shown in the video as ISP (independent study pathway).
A video (no sound) featuring how further in centre content will be shared and delivered to the apprentices featuring design, heating and hot water, heat loss and more. Employer driven requests will also be added and have been created in readiness such as the site investigation material that was requested to be added to the content of the standard by an employer local to my centre. Scenario and information devised material to allow the apprentice to become more adept at the expectations of a LCHT on site duties. A range of e-Books have been written and published to support the apprentices during their studies and all feature multimedia content, easy to read and have embedded knowledge checks with the e-books to allow all to check their progress. Each result from the quizzes embedded will be available to the tutor/trainer to check for any KSB gaps and may allow time to revisit and/or discuss with individuals or small groups as part of the next session. In addition to the e-Books assignment based content has also been added to the resource package as can be seen in the video, which features the DNO scenario which asks the apprentice to consider how to approach this with a real address and location, prompting them to complete the DNO paperwork within the scenario parameters.More resources covering ASHP, GSHP and Solar Thermal can be seen in the video too. Some of which have been created with the assistance of our local employers within the industry. Innovative resources such as Hyper-Doc assignments can be seen in the video which add just a little more variance to tasks asked of the apprentice and can be used as a flipped learning application if required or simply as a formative assessment. A site has been developed HallEdu to support all apprentices in or out of centre with a world of information, which can be accessed anywhere and covers a whole range of topics and links to video content, tests and much more.
A video (no sound) featuring how a range of supportive documents are available on the VLE for all apprentices covering; MCS tools library which enables the apprentices to become familiar of where to locate information and guidance relating to their industry. A range of tasks and assignments have been created which are scaffolded in to the apprentices knowledge and skills allowing them to develop in locating information when required to undertake tasks or solutions to any issues. A range of supportive video content has also been created to show the apprentices how to undertake basic tasks and more complex videos will be added as the apprentice progresses. More e-books have been created which sit in the literature section and can be accessed via the LIBRARY link.
Note
All of the above is my delivery approach to the LCHT apprenticeship standard. Undoubtedly there will be changes along the way however, I believe that the content is there and with the support of employers and others the apprenticeship can be successful and really become what the employer group set out to achieve.
